I noticed a slight spike in traffic today due to a couple of key search words.
The phrase people were searching for via Google was “daegu earthquake”.
If you are an English teacher, in Daegu, and all this talk has got you spooked, allow me to reassure you. From July 2007~December 2010 I witnessed a grand total of 0 earthquakes in Daegu.
Korea does get them. In fact there were a number of them while I was in the country, but nobody in Daegu felt them. Seoul has frequent tremors, as do other parts of the country, but my old home seems to have less seismic activity than its surroundings.
It’s built in a basin surrounded by a ring of mountains. Maybe this strange location has something to do with it. As I’ve noted before, its location has saved it in the past, and it looks like it continues to do so in the present.
